I was excited to read about the new Star Wars “Anthology” movie, meaning a non-Episode I-IX movie, this 2nd one about Han Solo. The director’s from the LEGO MOVIE and 21 JUMP STREET reboot are at the helm with Lawrence Kasden and his son Jon writing. Lawrence Kasden writing anything is a great sign. I have a theory or two about the content of the Han Solo movie. In the Star Wars mythos, as originally outlined by George Lucas himself, Han Solo was a young Imperial Officer who helped a Wookiee named CHewbacca escape enslavement and they took off together.

I have read every draft of the original Star Wars movie (before it was Episode 4). The Rough Draft had a Han Solo that was a blue skinned alien and did not have a significant role. The 2nd draft was the first version to start to look like the movie we saw in 1977 as a New Hope. The 2nd draft, dated January 28th, 1975 had some elements that I think will be used in the new movie as well.

In this 2nd draft, Han Solo was a bit younger and he was part of the crew of the Millennium Falcon with Chewbacca, as well as another crew member, an older guy who was a mentor to Han named MONTROSS HOLDAACK. They work for the owner of the Falcon, a guy named OXUS who is similar to Jabba without being an alien. They steal the Falcon to take Luke and the droids off of Tatooine from their boss OXUS.

Then there is the whole deal of possibly winning the Falcon from Lando as an alternative. And as someone else pointed out to me on Facebook, it is entirely likely that the “Kessel Run” as mentioned might cameo in the movie as well.

Can’t wait to see what they do. A ton of new Star Wars movies and exploring more corners of the mythology from other filmmakers styles can only do good for this brand. Star Wars in 1977 was the first film I ever saw in a movie theater and my sentimentality swoons at the idea of all these new movies.
