Turns out directing live show has become equal to editing for my paydays. I’m getting booked up months in advance for different live streaming and broadcast. This skillset came from teaching at a broadcast school. I got trained by some local news guys who also taught at the same school. Now it makes me money. Oh how great a thing this can be. This relates more to editing in a way, like editing in real time, whilst controlling what the cameras do as well. I learned my instinct from a master, which is my old boss Mike Tavares. He used to direct live events sometimes and I would operate a camera on those gigs. Moreso I learned from him on interviews. He had an uncanny ability to anticipate when an interviewee was about to get to the best part of their interview and he would zoom in ever so slow, really selling the emotion of what they were saying.

For me, it’s the anticipation of unscripted people talking, trying to feel the reaction of the audience, the people listening, and being focused on the person talking. Coalescing all of this into a whole, one that meets the stated purpose; that is what I love about what I do there.

Tested out the new rig doing an audition video for an actor friend. Loaned out my Glidecam Crane 200, on the condition that it come back fixed since on a previous loan, some pieces and parts went missing. I really want this thing functional again. It is an amazing tool for smooth shots.

Things are proceeding. Back to the gym regularly after being sick. Cats doing cat things. Movies being seen. Plans being made. Plots thicken, and my life remains in flux as the avenues become clearer and clearer.

“Remember when you were young, you shone like the sun.
Shine on you crazy diamond.
Now there’s a look in your eyes, like black holes in the sky.
Shine on you crazy diamond.
You were caught on the crossfire of childhood and stardom,
Blown on the steel breeze.
Come on you target for faraway laughter,
Come on you stranger, you legend, you martyr, and shine!
You reached for the secret too soon, you cried for the moon.
Shine on you crazy diamond.
Threatened by shadows at night, and exposed in the light.
Shine on you crazy diamond.
Well you wore out your welcome with random precision,
Rode on the steel breeze.
Come on you raver, you seer of visions,
Come on you painter, you piper, you prisoner, and shine!”
