All day yesterday, I directed a shoot. I donít say that enough because I havenít been doing that as much as I should. This was a couple years in the making. I wanted to make sure the quality was superior to what I have been churning out. I spent money on props and art direction. I tried several new things and worked with many new people.
It was a good day
The end results will be some new interactive material, finishing some old FRAMELINES clips, and just plain old fun. I brought on one of my former students who wanted to get deeper into acting, a guy I met whose work I had seen, and of course one of my regulars. The DP was the inimitable Greg Sabo and his son Zack ran a 2nd camera so we were able to hammer out a lot more material.
As always, I feel like a million dollars. Having good people contribute to make these things in my imagination become reality astounds me. I have an embarrassment of riches when it comes to those who help me realize my dreams.
I exhausted myself in every way, mentally, creatively, physically, and even emotionally. The high I get from making movies cannot be compared. I love when after a shoot, everyone wants to keep talking, keep that vibe going. Youíre all tired, youíre all fried, we all have things to do the next day, and we canít stop laughing, joking, and reliving the moments.
I need to shoot more. Iím so glad I have a significant shoot coming up. This short film will be my crown jewel. The script has fermented for 16 years, so I hope itís ready by now. My vision for it has come into focus and it is time for me to get off the bench and get back in the game.
If yesterday was just the scrimmage, then I cannot imagine how it will feel to play in the big game again.
ĒRemember when you were young, you shone like the sun.
Now there's a look in your eyes, like black holes in the sky.
You were caught in the crossfire of childhood and stardom, blown on the steel breeze.
Come on you target for faraway laughter, come on you stranger, you legend, you martyr, and shine!
You reached for the secret too soon, you cried for the moon.
Shine on you crazy diamond.Ē
