Blog : Though to itself, it only live and die

Still burning through these edits. It looks like the special “48 Hour Film Project - Cleveland” episode will be 2 episodes. We have enough material and the interviews are good enough to spread it without sacrificing quality. That gets us firmly into Season 3 of FRAMELINES and nearly the end of what I had originally set out to do with the show.

Having time, using it to create, and then not getting out and doing things is a habit I must continue to break. I need to walk around, get away from the computer, and this wretched chair. I go through office chairs every 18 months. I will probably buy a nice back support expensive on this time just because I always buy cheap instead of nice.

I have nearly completed the entire Interactive Project for the Horror Scene. Offering up the raw footage, in 4K no less, takes a lot of space. I’ve used the entirety of the 5 gig upload for Vimeo Pro this week and the week before. When it resets on Friday, I can get the last of the shots uploaded. I am hoping this project “hits” a bit with filmmakers as the Car Chase one did 2 years ago. This footage is way better, the performances vastly improved, and it certainly doesn’t hurt to have a pretty young girl running around in a tank top.

Doing these Interactive Projects is my way to “pay it forward” in a sense. I give back to the universe what it gave me; knowledge. By looking at the analytics, I can clearly see that several community colleges, tech schools, and high schools use FRAMELINES in their classes, or on their blogs/syllabi online. That’s one of the thing that makes all the hard work feel worth it.

I’m upping my game in a big way. I keep tweaking and poking at the material past where I have previously. One of the 3 “finished” episodes just got re-edited and re-rendered when I discovered a folder of still images for one of the filmmakers we profiled. Once I saw additional footage I could use, I went back in and re-cut the story. It hasn’t been broadcast yet, so I deleted the uploads online, and did it all over.

I cannot abide this idea of “good enough” when I aspire to be “good.” They don’t hand out Emmy’s to “eh, we just kinda threw this together” and I wouldn’t want one if they did. My bar has been set. I aim to go over it as much as I can without knocking the bar off.

Now beginning Color Grading on Bob Bate’s next short as we finalize the edit. Must do some prep work before he gets here.

”There's a starman waiting in the sky
He'd like to come and meet us
But he thinks he'd blow our minds
There's a starman waiting in the sky
He's told us not to blow it
'Cause he knows it's all worthwhile
He told me
Let the children lose it
Let the children use it”
- David Bowie
