I got sick. Just a head cold, but man did that turn into a productivity motivator. I finalized 5 half hour episodes of FRAMELINES. Most of the segments were already edited, I must admit. Still, not all of them and putting together the shows requires a different mindset and takes some thinking (tinkering?). Made some other big decisions about all my future projects. I don’t think I will ever host my own podcasts or FRAMELINES segments anymore. I don’t think I do a bad job per se. I just want to separate myself from the amateurs. I want these to be better, very good, not just okay. That involves the writing process too. I want to be open to new ideas and shape something to a better place.

I upgraded my home edit station again. This time I put in a solid state C: drive, 480 gig. I am not seeing the amazing performance and speed I expected based on my laptop’s SSD drive, but it is faster. It allowed me to update to the 2017 Adobe suite since I was already doing a reformat reinstall.

With that came the ultimate test; would my Matrox MX02 analog capture system work in the latest version of Adobe? Yes indeed, it continues to be a robust part of my arsenal, especially being able to digitize from HDMI, Component, S-Video, HD-SDI, SD-SDI, or even Composite sources. I have many decks at home, like Hi8, 8mm, S-VHS, ¾” U-matic, and BetaSP formats already here and setup. I intend to start advertising very soon to many companies that I have this ability here.

I have agreed to direct a live show for a friend once a month, doing the recording and multicam. I guess I wasn’t busy enough. More of this “pay it forward” material. I like the challenge and love the live recording aspect.

Got a couple new prime lenses. My arsenal is slowly building. I have plans.

I want to continue to raise my bar. 2017 looks to be a different year for me. Is that better or worse? No idea. I only know that it will not be the same as any prior year.

“In restless dreams I walked alone
Narrow streets of cobblestone,
‘Neath the halo of a street lamp,
I turned my collar to the cold and damp
When my eyes were stabbed by the flash of a neon light
That split the night
And touched the sound of silence
And in the naked light I saw
Ten thousand people, maybe more
People talking without speaking,
People hearing without listening,
People writing songs that voices never share
And no one dared
Disturb the sound of silence”
