So so busy. Almost non-stop production, post production, client meetings, and teaching. And in my off time, I just either chill out poolside getting much needed sun on my pale white skin or in a near catatonic state devouring Netflix at a voracious pace. On the plus side, I did get my 4h Emmy nomination, so there’s that to placate the exhaustion.
I entered in several categories, leaving my comfort zone. Of course, I did not get any nominations in anything other than one. Still, I will not complain because I have judged so many times in the past year, I have seen what kind of work deserves an Emmy nomination and I can totally see where my work was not deemed worthy.
I am not getting out to see many movies. I have such weird turnarounds, going from 2-3 half day gigs in the same day, then having to be up at 8:30AM (egads!) to start it over again. At least money is starting to come in, so that I can pay off all this new gear.
I am starting to wear down a lot. Still, I found some time to open up some of these old projects, like the Sonnyboo Podcasts that have been shot over the past 6-7 months that have been sitting in a queue waiting to be chroma keyed and edited. Soon I will get to these too. Just need air and time to work it out.
I bought a DJI Osmo. I love me some steady shots and the dolly/crane looks most especially. The gimbals have been around for a few years and several of my pals have tried various rigs. The DJI Osmo stood out because it uses the same gimble and 4K camera as the high end drones, better than the Phantom 3 4K that I have. So when I found the right deal on eBay, and got it with 3 spare batteries and the case for barely $300, I went ahead and splurged. LOVE IT.
I made a deal with myself though. I have to shoot something either for pay or a narrative film using this camera for at least a few shots or I have to sell it in 45 days. August 1st, if nothing has been shot with the Osmo on a paid gig or on a film of my own, then it’s gotta go.
Because of how busy I have been and what I am doing with the directing live shows, I have been purchasing way too much gear and do-dads that assist in the production workflow. I have all these prime lenses for film work, and everything I could possible need for making a short film and I am not making any films for me.
